Documents Required for GST Registration: A Complete Checklist

Documents Required for GST Registration: A Complete Checklist

Having the right documents ready before you start your GST application prevents delays, rejections, and repeated queries from the tax officer. Requirements vary slightly based on business structure.

Common documents for all applicants

  • PAN card of the business/applicant
  • Aadhaar card
  • Passport-size photograph of the proprietor/partners/directors
  • Proof of business registration or incorporation certificate
  • Address proof of the principal place of business (electricity bill, rent agreement, or property tax receipt)
  • Bank account statement or a cancelled cheque
  • Digital Signature Certificate (mandatory for companies and LLPs)

Proprietorship

Only the proprietor's PAN, Aadhaar, and address proof are needed — no separate business PAN exists since the business and owner share the same PAN.

Partnership firm

Partnership deed, PAN of the firm, and PAN plus address proof of all partners.

LLP

Certificate of incorporation, LLP agreement, PAN of the LLP, and details of designated partners.

Private/Public Limited Company

Certificate of incorporation, Memorandum and Articles of Association (MOA/AOA), PAN of the company, board resolution authorizing a signatory, and PAN/Aadhaar of all directors.

Address proof options

For owned premises: property tax receipt, municipal khata copy, or electricity bill. For rented premises: rent agreement along with the owner's NOC and one utility bill. For shared or co-working spaces: consent letter from the owner along with utility proof.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Uploading blurry or expired documents
  • Mismatched name spellings between PAN and Aadhaar
  • Using an address proof older than two months
  • Forgetting the authorization letter for authorized signatories other than the proprietor/director

Keeping scanned copies (PDF/JPEG, under the portal's size limits) ready in advance can cut your registration time significantly.
